A strong local economy means real prosperity and resiliency. It means relying less on foreign goods and services, empowering local people, and protecting Hawaiʻi’s sense of place for the future. More than ever before, our community needs all the help we can get to connect and share information and resources in a safe and digital way.
That’s why we created the Kamaʻāina Directory—to connect locally owned, independent businesses to thousands of residents and visitors, and, most importantly, to each other. We envision a connected, resilient island community, and a thriving local economy based on strong relationships, equitable opportunities, and doing business the pono way—with honesty, integrity, and positivity in mind.

Reasons You Should Join
For just a little more than a dollar a day, you’ll be able to create and manage your very own landing page in an easy-to-use, searchable online directory. Need to change your information often? No worries! Log in and update your listing any time, day or night!
Customers are nearly 70% more likely to purchase from your business over a competitor if you offer a deal. Share your Kamaʻāina deal, visitor special, sale, promotion, or coupon right on your listing!
Include your COVID-19 hours and safety instructions, your photo gallery, a link to your online store, a location map with clickable directions, operating hours, and other important information. You can embed a video, a link to review your business, or even add a ‘donate’ button for your cause or organization! You’ll also have clickable contact links right at the top of your listing so people can easily get in touch with you and follow you on social media.
Bringing the Big Island’s business community together under one “digital roof” drastically improves SEO (search engine optimization) and the likelihood that your business listing will get seen by more people online.
To support equitable opportunity in business, we invite companies that are Native-Hawaiian-owned, Black-owned, Differently-Abled-owned, Kūpuna-owned, Woman-owned, Immigrant-owned, LGBTQ-or-Māhū-owned, or owned by other underrepresented individuals in our community to highlight diverse-ownership in their listing!
Strong partnerships means GUARANTEED promotion and views! Big Island Pulse, as part of their #SupportBigIsland campaign, will promote your business to their Facebook audience of over 30,000 and their more than 8,000 Instagram followers at least once during your membership term. We’re working continually with a growing number of partners as well as 4 major radio stations to make sure YOUR business gets seen! You’ll be able to check in REAL TIME how many views your listing has gotten since it was first published.
By the way, here’s how we’re BETTER than Yelp or Alignable… All business listings are 100% local, nobody needs to sign up to view your listing, no one can pay more to be on top of the search results (we’re keeping things fair!), and no reviews means no hassle trying to figure out how to hide or delete negative comments!
